中村夏野 個展「宇宙とハエ」
中村夏野による個展「宇宙とハエ」を開催いたします。
アーティストプロフィール
東京生まれ。2023年京都市立芸術大学院美術研究科修士課程美術専攻油画入学。現在在籍中。デジタル空間とフィジカル空間を行き来しながらその間で見える世界を表現している。

作品・コンセプトについて
iPadを使って制作したイメージを元にキャンバスに描き起こすタブロー作品や、印刷出力したイメージを使いインスタレーション作品などを制作している。今回の展示「宇宙とハエ」ではタブロー作品を中心に発表する。
デジタル上で容易になる複製や反転など使ってイメージを作る。すると偶然にも植物が葉や花をつける時の規則性や構造に似てくることがある。複製によって何度も同じ形を繰り返すと音や音楽を想起させる。RGBの色彩を使ってグラデーションを作ると、虹や、夕焼け、宇宙現象を思い起こすことがある。そのほかにも身体の一部や細胞に近づくことがある。
空や植物、虫などの自然物だけでなく、アニメーションや映画、MVで見られるVFXなどの視覚効果に着想を受けることも多いが、特定のモチーフは持たない。何かに見えてきても、具体的なもののようでそうでない曖昧なところに着地するようイメージを作る。
宇宙のようにも虫のようにも見えるが、どちらでもないこと。印刷かのようで手描きであること。抽象画のようにを見えるが、iPadの画面を描写をしているのかもしれないこと。デジタルかフィジカルかではなくデジタルとフィジカルとそのどちらでもであるといこと。
このように境界線を越えること曖昧であることは、私にとって既存のカテゴリーに対する抵抗であるとともに、新たなあり方を模索する過程でもある。

Exhibition Information
AWASE Gallery presents the solo exhibition “The Cosmos and the Fly” by Kano Nakamura.
I create tableau works by drawing on canvas based on images made using an iPad, or produce installation works using printed outputs of those images. In my upcoming exhibition, The Universe and Flies, I will primarily showcase tableau works.
I create images using techniques like duplication or mirroring, which are easily done in the digital realm. Sometimes, by chance, these images resemble the patterns or structures seen in the way plants produce leaves or flowers. Repeating the same shape multiple times through duplication evokes the sense of sound or music. When creating gradients with RGB colors, it can evoke rainbows, sunsets, or cosmic phenomena. At times, the images may also resemble parts of the body or cells.
In addition to natural elements like the sky, plants, or insects, I often draw inspiration from visual effects (VFX) seen in animations, films, or music videos, though I don’t adhere to specific motifs. Even if the images start to resemble something specific, I aim to land in an ambiguous space where they feel both concrete and abstract.
The images may look like the universe or like flies, but they are neither. They appear printed yet are hand-drawn. They might seem like abstract paintings but could also be depictions of an iPad screen. They are neither purely digital nor purely physical, but rather both and neither.
For me, crossing boundaries and embracing ambiguity is both a form of resistance against existing categories and a process of exploring new possibilities.
